Fall 21 ORC Week One: Before Photos & Design Plan

I’m so excited to be participating in my first ever One Room Challenge! I’ve wanted to join in on this event for a while and can’t wait to spend the next eight weeks transforming my basement family room. This is a room I haven’t shared much of before, mostly because…well, it’s pretty hideous. It has a great layout, though, and I know with some work it’ll become a space I love spending time in!

Here are some before photos:

The blue painters tape on the wall represents the two tv sizes I’m debating.

The fireplace has this cute arched shelf I can’t wait to do something fun with!

Design Plan

1. Remove wall paneling and patch wall underneath

2. Rip up carpet

3. Demo fireplace tile

4. New electrical wiring for outlets and lighting

5. Install drywall on walls and ceiling

6. Replace broken window

7. Resurface fireplace

8. Paint walls, ceiling and fireplace

9. Seal floor and install new vinyl plank flooring

10. Build bookcase

11. Mount Samsung Frame TV

12. Furnish and decorate

Mood Board

My goal for this room is to create a cozy and inviting space with a moodier, sophisticated color palette. It might be hard to picture now, but here is what I’m aiming for:
