Fall 21 ORC Week One: Before Photos & Design Plan
We’re so excited to be participating in our first ever One Room Challenge! Zach and I have wanted to join in on this event for a while and can’t wait to spend the next eight weeks transforming our family room. This is a room I haven’t shared much of before, mostly because of the wall paneling, mauve paint, fluorescent lighting, and red tiled fireplace that create an…interesting combination. It has a great layout, though, and we know with some work it’ll become a space we love spending time in! Here are some photos of what we’re starting with:
The blue painters tape on the wall represents the two tv sizes we’re debating.
The fireplace has this cute arched shelf I can’t wait to do something fun with!
We don’t dislike the fireplace tile, but feel it’ll be too heavy in the final space.
The electrical is getting updated by a professional, including outlets and new ceiling lights.
Design Plan
1. Remove wall paneling and patch wall underneath
2. Rip up carpet
3. Demo fireplace tile
4. New electrical wiring for outlets and lighting
5. Install drywall on walls and ceiling
6. Replace broken window
7. Resurface fireplace
8. Paint walls, ceiling and fireplace
9. Seal floor and install new vinyl plank flooring
10. Build bookcase
11. Mount Samsung Frame TV
12. Furnish and decorate
Mood Board
Our goal for this room is to create a cozy and inviting space with a moodier, sophisticated color palette. It might be hard to picture now, but here is what we’re aiming for:
