What We're Looking Forward To
Another month has passed in quarantine and I hope you’re all staying safe! We’re living in such uncertain times and it’s hard not to get overwhelmed by it all. One thing I’m finding helpful is thinking about the good things we have to look forward to. Big or small, it doesn’t matter, it just helps knowing there are happy things on the horizon! Here are the things I’m looking forward to most:
SEEING FAMILY
I know I’m not alone in saying I can’t wait to see my family! We’ve gotten more used to longer stretches of time between visits since moving out of state, but it’s still strange not knowing when we’ll see each other next. My dad had a big birthday in March and unfortunately the party had to be postponed, so I’m especially looking forward to making up for that big time when we’re all together again!
FRIENDS WEDDINGS
A few of our friends recently had to make the tough decision to postpone their spring and summer weddings. As heartbreaking as I know that was for them, it’s been so inspiring to see them make the most of the situation and even come up with new plans to turn this negative into a positive! We now have their weddings to look forward to in 2021, but in the meantime we’re still celebrating via Zoom!
DIY PROJECTS
I’ve been spending a lot of time looking at the listing photos of our new house and coming up with short-term and long-term project lists. I’m so excited Zach wants to get to work right away on some things I figured we’d wait a year or so to get to! First on the list is the wallpaper and carpet in the bedrooms, which we’re planning to rip out. The carpet is covering the original wood floors which we’re hoping are in decent shape. The wallpaper isn’t original, otherwise I’d probably have a hard time making the choice to remove it. It’s incredibly cute, but makes the already small bedrooms feel cramped and dark. I can’t wait to see how much brighter and more open they feel after we finish our first project!
VEGETABLE GARDEN
It’s been years since I’ve sprouted vegetable seeds and oddly enough, I think it’s been one of the most helpful things for my mental health during quarantine. I really look forward to seeing the progress my plants have made every morning and get SO excited when a new sprout pops up from the soil! We’re planning to transplant these guys from their egg carton to a vegetable garden we’re building when we move, and I can’t wait to see the progress they continue to make.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Zach and I hike and camp regularly, so not being able to do that during quarantine has been one of the hardest adjustments for us. A big reason why we moved to Colorado is our love of the outdoors and wanting to be close to the mountains. We have a few places we’re looking forward to taking weekend trips once this is all over, and a National Park road trip is on the list for the future!
BRINGING FINN + KIRBY HOME
The thing I’ve been looking forward to most since we found our house is the day we get to bring our dog and cat over for the first time. I know that’s kind of ridiculous, but it’s a moment I’ve been playing over and over in my head for more than a month. Both Finn and Kirby started life on the street — Kirby was dumped by her original owner on our block in Culver City, and Finn was living on the street in Taiwan before the organization we adopted him from rescued him. Not being able to explain why our house is filled with boxes again has been tough. It sets off the panic alarm in them and I know they’re probably worried it means another huge move with a long drive is ahead. We’ll be bringing Finn over to the house with us while we work on renovation projects and I can’t wait to see how excited he is running around our new yard! Kirby we’ll bring over in a few weeks when we’re ready to move in, since she gets more freaked out by the changes and hates car rides. Little does she know she’s going to have ALL the space to roam around and lounge in the sun (and probably chase some mice) very soon!
