Spring 22 ORC Week One: Before Photos & Digital Renderings

It’s that time of year again! The Spring 2022 One Room Challenge starts today and I couldn’t be more excited to be participating in this very special Tenth Anniversary edition of the ORC! Last fall I transformed my family room from a dark, unused basement space to a bright & welcoming room I now love spending time in. I can’t wait to do the same with my new home office!

This week I’m sharing some before photos, digital renderings I created, and a breakdown of my design plan. Here is what I have in store:

Before Photos

This is a unique space with a long dormer window nook, east and south facing windows, and a tiny attached bathroom.

When I’ve had some free time from my other home projects, I’ve been working on removing the wallpaper. It’s been a lower priority on my to-do list until now, and I can’t wait see how different this room looks with a fresh coat of paint from my amazing partners, Clare.

One discovery I made when lifting up the thick carpet was the original hardwood floor hiding underneath. I won’t know how the entire floor looks until I rip up the whole carpet, but I’m so happy there isn’t a layer of linoleum glued to the wood like I have in my guest room. This will be my first time refinishing hardwood floors, and I’m excited to take on the challenge!

Digital Renderings

My first step in every design project is creating a digital rendering of the space. This allows me to try out lots of different options before I commit to buying anything. Here are two views of the room as they currently look and what I’m ultimately aiming for with the final reveal.
