Spring 22 ORC Week Eight: Final Reveal
It’s REVEAL DAY! We are so excited to finally share my new home office with you guys! The last eight weeks of this One Room Challenge have been a wild ride. From finding a second layer of wallpaper hiding under the first, to discovering a hole in the floor that once homed bees, the surprises seemed to be endless. There’s still some work to be done — we’ll be refinishing the hardwood floors over the next few weeks and sharing the process here, but we’re SO proud of everything we accomplished over the course of this challenge!
It’s hard to believe now this room used to be covered in blue wallpaper. We knew this room had potential from the natural light it gets, but Clare’s color Whipped completely transformed this space! We were so happy to partner with Clare on this challenge, and their paint is hands down the best we’ve ever used.
I’ve been aiming my photos more towards the window nook lately to avoid showing it, but in case you forgot, we still had a huge hole in our floor. Zach drew up this plan to cut the floorboards we pulled from the closet, but it was a lot more involved than that. Some of the boards splintered and needed to be glued, they all had huge nails that needed to be removed, and they all needed to be cut to fit. Overall every aspect of replacing the floor took a lot longer than we expected.
Fixing the floor was by far the most unpredictable part of this challenge, but with it being our first time working on a hardwood floor, we wanted to take our time to get it right. We still need to sand down the new floorboards and refinish the entire floor, but we’re proud of how far we got with it for now. The beehive subfloor is gone, there’s no longer a hole in the floor, and we managed to install matching floorboards. We’ll be finishing the floor in the next few weeks and posting an update when we do!
We also shared how Zach built this window seat in last week’s blog post and we’re so happy with how it turned out! When coming up with the design for this seat, one of the things we thought about early on was the cushion. We already had a toddler mattress from when our niece visited a few months ago, and the length just happened to be the exact width of the window nook!
On top of the mattress is a cotton muslin fitted crib sheet with some cozy pillows and a blanket from Target. I wasn’t sure if the fitted sheet would look bunched along the bottom edge, but I’m really happy with how it looks! It was an affordable way to create a seat cushion and I love how easy it is to change the look of this with a new fitted sheet.
I was so excited to partner with Loop Living again after the last challenge! I love Eli and her team, and the hanging planters they create are works of art. This is the Luna round planter in the ceiling plant hanger and it fits so perfectly in our window nook! I also love that it has a water reservoir to make watering easy.
I have a lot of sentimental things in my office, and I knew when I saw these Roots I & II art prints by Juniper Print Shop they were perfect for this room. We’re huge fans of Juniper and have their prints all over our house, so a space never really feels complete with a Juniper Print Shop print! I also have Poppy Hill in the gallery wall across from my desk.
Ever since I bought our first rug from Loloi for our living room last year, I’ve been hooked. We were so excited to partner with Loloi on the last ORC and again on this one! Their new collaboration with Amber Lewis is absolutely gorgeous — this is the Georgie rug in ocean/sand. It’s the perfect warm neutral rug, and as soon as I added it to my mood board, I knew it was the one.
We can grow citrus trees in Colorado as long as they’re inside during colder months, so this Meyer lemon tree will spend summer on our patio and winter by this window near my desk. I grew up with Meyer lemon trees in my backyard, so this was one more thing with a sentimental meaning. It already has some flower buds, so we’ll see if any lemons appear anytime soon!
